With the immortal words, “Please Look After This Bear,” A Bear Called Paddington begins the tale of… well, a bear called Paddington.
For those of you who don’t know, Paddington is a stowaway from Peru. He has made his way to London because his Aunt Lucy had to go to the home for retired bears in Lima, and she wants him to have a better life. He is a very friendly and polite bear with a strong sense of right and wrong. He also likes marmalade. A lot.
Luckily for Paddington, he is discovered by the Brown family at Paddington station in London (which is the reason he has such an unusual name). Despite Mr. Brown’s concerns, they take Paddington under their wing, and he soon becomes one of the family.
There are a total of eleven Paddington books of which I am aware, and they are all marvelous, but I have a particular fondness for the first one. Crazy adventures surround Paddington’s first bath, his first trip on the London Underground (subway), his first time in a department store, his first outing to the seaside… everyday activities seen through the curious, innocent and often misunderstanding eyes of a bear from Peru. A Bear Called Paddington is funny, silly, filled with kindness and is one of my favorite books.

Many thanks to Steph at Cover2Cover for her wonderful review of Kyle Evans and the Deadly Plague. Here’s a short excerpt:
“Rob Hunt does not disappoint with book two in the Kyle Evans series. The book is simply put ‘out of this world’ (pun intended) with crazy creatures, action and adventure. Younger readers will love this series, it is full of space, monsters, battles, and dangerous feats.”

Whenever I attend an event, at least one person asks me to name my favorite book. I always find this a difficult question to answer. I am not good at choosing my favorite anything: book, movie, TV show, food, vacation spot, child… Anyway, this gave me an idea for my blog.
From time to time, I will write about a book that I love. I will focus on books that my readers might enjoy (which means books for kids aged 8-13). Some of the books might be for younger kids in that category, and some might be for older, but they will all be books that I think 3rd – 7th Graders might enjoy.
I don’t know how often I will write these posts, and I am only going to write about books I love, but if you have any suggestions for me, please pass them on.
My first post on this subject should be ready soon!
Congratulations to Eric H. from Wilton, CT who has won this original, signed illustration from Kyle Evans and the Key to the Universe. In case you are wondering, this is a Grug – a rather unpleasant creature that Kyle, Sofia and Boootles encounter on a distant planet. I hope you enjoy having him in your home!
I am currently working on two different stories that are both contenders for my next publication.
The first is “The Alexa Hill Chronicles: Volume One.” This is the story of the trials and tribulations of a sixth grade girl with a fierce mom. This is actually in its third draft, but I am still not 100% sure about it. I am waiting for feedback from a couple more readers, and then I will decide whether to publish or exile Alexa into the dungeon of failed ideas (alas, this dungeon already has two occupants).
The second is tentatively titled “The Face In The Wall.” This is the story of a boy who is constantly observed by a mysterious face, that only he can see. I started this manuscript about 18 months ago, and just recently returned to it. The first draft is nowhere near ready, but if I don’t publish Alexa Hill, this will almost certainly by my next publication.
And then, of course, there is the third and final Kyle Evans book. I haven’t written a single word of this story yet, but my goal is to finish it this year. I can’t wait to see how Bootles’ Kyle’s and Sofia’s journey ends!
Kyle Evans and the Key to the Universe continues to earn great reviews (like this one from Readers’ Favorite ) and was just named one of the best books of 2016 by AlliesOpinions.
If you, or a child in your life, love fun, exciting adventure stories with wacky characters and excellent illustrations then you can pick up a copy at any bookstore, or right here. You can also find the sequel (Kyle Evans and the Deadly Plague) at your favorite bookshop and here.
