Whenever I attend an event, at least one person asks me to name my favorite book. I always find this a difficult question to answer. I am not good at choosing my favorite anything: book, movie, TV show, food, vacation spot, child… Anyway, this gave me an idea for my blog.
From time to time, I will write about a book that I love. I will focus on books that my readers might enjoy (which means books for kids aged 8-13). Some of the books might be for younger kids in that category, and some might be for older, but they will all be books that I think 3rd – 7th Graders might enjoy.
I don’t know how often I will write these posts, and I am only going to write about books I love, but if you have any suggestions for me, please pass them on.
My first post on this subject should be ready soon!
I am currently working on two different stories that are both contenders for my next publication.
The first is “The Alexa Hill Chronicles: Volume One.” This is the story of the trials and tribulations of a sixth grade girl with a fierce mom. This is actually in its third draft, but I am still not 100% sure about it. I am waiting for feedback from a couple more readers, and then I will decide whether to publish or exile Alexa into the dungeon of failed ideas (alas, this dungeon already has two occupants).
The second is tentatively titled “The Face In The Wall.” This is the story of a boy who is constantly observed by a mysterious face, that only he can see. I started this manuscript about 18 months ago, and just recently returned to it. The first draft is nowhere near ready, but if I don’t publish Alexa Hill, this will almost certainly by my next publication.
And then, of course, there is the third and final Kyle Evans book. I haven’t written a single word of this story yet, but my goal is to finish it this year. I can’t wait to see how Bootles’ Kyle’s and Sofia’s journey ends!
I am delighted to announce that I will be answering questions and signing copies of Kyle Evans and the Key to the Universe and Kyle Evans and the Deadly Plague at Bank Square Books, in Mystic, CT on November 20th.
I will be at the store from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm – I hope to see you there!
I want to thank all of the Middlebrook sixth graders who entered the story writing competition. The submissions were awesome, but there could only be one winner and that person has been notified by email.
For privacy reasons, I will not reveal the winner’s name here, but they will have a character named after them in my upcoming book (The Alexa Hill Chronicles) which is due to be published in Spring 2017.
I am delighted to announce that The Toy Chest in Wilton will be hosting a book signing event for me on March 19th, between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. If you are in the area, please stop by to say hello, chat about books and writing, and pick up a signed copy of Kyle Evans and the Key to the Universe, or Flicker.
The Toy Chest is located at 21 River Road, Wilton CT 06897.
I hope to see you there! 🙂
Sofia has lived across the street from Kyle for almost five years. She lives with her mom and dad in a bright blue house and is the first human to ever meet a Kranken (even though she doesn’t know what it is).
Smart, funny and adventurous, Sofia is the perfect friend to have around when things get crazy. Of course, nothing has prepared her for traveling with Bootles and Kyle, but on that journey she discovers something very special about herself.
Kyle Evans and the Key to the Universe will be available in just one month (and one day!). I can’t wait to share Bootles, Kyle and Sofia with the world, but until then, here’s a sneak peak of the cover (illustrated by the talented James Chapman).
